Dickens of a Christmas
Living Windows

Friday, November 30th, 2012
6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Historic Downtown Ripon

Sponsored by Ripon Chamber of Commerce & Affinity Medical Group-Ripon

Visit the 1800's During Dickens Living Windows

In honor of Charles Dickens' 200th birthday, this year's Dickens of a Christmas Living Windows will take a look back at life in the 1800's in the storefronts of Historic Downtown Ripon from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. on November 30, Friday night only. Store windows will come alive by portraying scenes from 19th Century literature, inventions, notable people, customs, and accomplishments of the 1800s.

As in past years, merchants will hand out cider, roasted chestnuts and other treats; a living nativity will depict the Holy birth; and musical ensembles and carolers will be heard throughout the evening. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the Christmas Season as you ride through Ripon's historic downtown in a horse-drawn carriage, compliments of "Golden Rule” Community Credit Union.

Returning for its fifth year as part of Living Windows is Las Posadas, a reenactment of Mary and Joseph's search for lodging in Bethlehem. It will begin at 7:15 p.m. with a procession down Watson Street as Mary and Joseph seek shelter from "innkeepers” at the shops downtown. The procession will arrive at the VFW Hall, 404 Ransom Street at about 8:00 p.m. for a fiesta featuring traditional foods, beverages and a Piñata for the children. All are welcome at this celebration of the Christmas story.

Following your tour of the Living Windows, bring the family and warm up at one of Ripon's many fine restaurants or pubs. Wrap up your evening with food, beverages and lively conversation as the Holiday Spirit fills your heart!
